In the final sermon in the Stewardship series, Pastor Scott discusses the importance of church membership. Having a biblical view of membership makes for a healthy church. While membership is not explicitly commanded in Scripture, it is implied throughout the New Testament. The video starts a few minutes into the sermon (missing a funny story of Pastor Scott and Lyndsey's dating experiences) but the audio has all of it. If you would like information on becoming a member of FBC, contact Pastor Scott or one of the elders or deacons the next time you are here. God bless your week!
Pastor Chris Promersberger from CrossPoint Community Church in Denver (http://www.crosspointedenver.org/) continues the "Stewardship" series by looking at fitness and health. He encourages everyone to recognize and repent of the sins of gluttony, sloth/laziness, and pursuing fleshly desires. He also speaks about the principles of glorification, restraint, and self-control. We were blessed to have him visit and share God's Word with us today.
The "2016 Healthy Lifestyle Challenge" is a document Pastor Scott put together to help those desiring to live healthier in 2016. A friendly competition will begin soon at FBC!
The Stewardship series continues with a look at personal finance. The Bible has a lot to say about managing money, wealth, and possessions. Seeing what we "have" through a biblical lens requires us to see ourselves as managers of what God provides. How we handle money tells us a lot about our character and heart. In the second sermon on stewardship, Pastor Scott encourages us to rest. This means ceasing from labor for one day a week. God set the precedent in creation, Jesus promised rest in Him, and Jesus also demonstrated the practice of regularly withdrawing from the busyness of life. Sabbath rest, vacations, retreats, and sabbaticals are also discussed. I hope you can find comfort in Jesus' offer to "“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).
In the first sermon from the "Stewardship" series, Pastor Scott looks at the importance of leadership in the church. It is important for every vibrant follower of Christ to understand leadership in the church because they are asked to submit to their leaders (1 Thessalonians 5 and Hebrews 13) and pray for their leaders. The offices of Elder, Deacon, and Deaconesses are discussed. The Bible talks more about their character than their function. Faith Bible Church is nominating two elders and three deacons to the church board at the end of January.
