How many of you are getting hit with a trial right now? You are experiencing some sort of pressure, whether at work, at home, from your family or friends. Is it getting you down? Is it making you sad, depressed, angry? Is it making you shake your fist at God and ask why me? Why now?
I hope today can be an encouragement to you.
We started our journey through the book of James last week. We saw how the human author of this letter is James, the half-brother of Jesus. He is writing to the Twelve Tribes that are scattered. These are Jewish Christians who have been scattered all over the known world because of the persecution of Christians. James was their pastor, and he writes a letter to encourage them. They were going through immense physical, emotional, and spiritual trials and temptations. That is the theme of vv. 2-18.
The purpose of trials, or tests in the life of a Christian, is our maturity and God’s Glory.
