Today’s story is tucked away in the Old Testament. The nation of Israel had been divided into two Kingdoms, the North and the South. The Northern Kingdom went through 19 kings in 205 years and not one of them did what was good in the eyes of the Lord. God was patient with them, but then sent them into exile via the Assyrians. They became the “Lost tribes of Israel.” The Southern Kingdom also went through 19 kings in 350 years, five of them did what was good in the eyes of the Lord. They were carried into exile by the Babylonians. That was the story last week.
Today, we are going to look at the beginning of the return home. You see, even though God had allowed the nations to be exiled, He promised that one day they would return to Jerusalem. 70 years after they started being deported to Babylon, a small remnant returns.
