Today’s message is from the book of Esther. 100 years has passed since the Jews have left Judah. 30 years prior to this story, 50 thousand Jews had returned to Jerusalem and started to rebuild the Temple and the altar. The Jews that stayed behind integrated into society. Esther was an orphaned Hebrew who was raised by her cousin, Mordecai. The story takes place in Susa, the capital of the Persian Empire, who had conquered the Babylonians.
In Esther, we also learn about the Feast of Purim that the Jews celebrate. “Pur” is the word for “casting lots” and can also mean “rolling the dice.” Throughout today’s story, we are going to see several different times where people roll the dice and leave their fate up in the air. We are also going to see the truth of Proverbs 16:33: “The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the Lord.”
