In the final sermon from the "Ministry Sync" series, Pastor Scott discusses Discipleship. If FBC is going to be making "vibrant followers of Christ," it important to understand why and how. By examining the Great Commission, we see three directions of discipleship. First, the church makes disciples by going into the community (this is the missionary component). Second, the church makes disciples by baptizing and teaching believers in the church. Third, disciples are made as we follow Christ and go where He wants us to go. All glory in discipleship belongs to Christ.
This "Ministry Sync" sermon discusses the "Great Commandment" of loving God, others, and self. Love is the overarching purpose for every Christian's life. The priorities in the follower of Christ's life should be God, self, and others. When we apply these two commandments to our life, we see that we fall desperately short of God’s will for our lives. There is forgiveness and hope in Christ. Similarly to how we have to lean on God for strength when using our spiritual gifts, we MUST rely on the Spirit when we love God and love people.
Faith Bible Church is going about God's business of developing ordinary people into vibrant followers of Christ. This is the purpose statement that the leaders of FBC wrote a few years ago. Pastor Scott provides the history and biblical support for it and outlines his vision for the future of FBC. At the end, Pastor Scott challenges the members and attenders to decide if this is a purpose statement they can get behind and support (and do!).
